After the Image: A Century of Reimagining the Human Figure
The human figure is one of the most direct subjects in art—and one of the most emotionally resonant.
This exhibition by LBT Art Space traces works centered on the figure from different periods, revealing the many transformations of human imagery over the past century. Rather than offering a definitive answer to the question “What is a human?”, the exhibition places diverse artistic languages side by side, showing how representations of the figure continually shift under the influence of history, ideas, and technology.

Under the theme “After the Image,” the exhibition brings together 37 works by six contemporary Chinese and international artists, alongside works by 20th-century German artists. In its curatorial approach, the exhibition does not follow a strict art-historical chronology; instead, it centers on visual experience and contemporary aesthetics, allowing viewers to encounter the evolving image of the human figure as they move through the space.
Each work represents a distinct understanding of what it means to be “human,” while also standing as an artistic expression that can be collected and contemplated over time.

In today’s era of intensely saturated imagery, the human figure is not only a subject to be depicted, but also a medium that connects art, space, and individual emotion. This exhibition aims to offer viewers a viewing experience that is both relaxed and thought-provoking, while presenting collectors at different stages with diverse and open possibilities.
