Paul Jean Anderbouhr is recognized as an impressionist whose quick brush strokes, splashes and dabs of color result in works reflecting motion and mood while maintaining an underlying sense of serenity and harmony. His paintings are built upon the subtle tone and moods of the "impressionists", but with a distinct variation.
Anderbouhr established his work in the major salons of Paris at an early age. He has been a regular contributor to the Salon des Artistes Français since 1934 and the Salon d'Automne since 1937.
Anderbouhr was given an unprecedented 17 one-man exhibitions by the prestigious Galerie Durand-Ruel guaranteeing his place as the master of “plein air” painting. He also exhibited his work in Germany, Japan, Morroco, England and in the United States, namely in Dallas, Palm Beach, New York and Philadelphia. Anderbouhr is best known for his cityscapes of Paris with a predilection for the banks of the Seine River.
Anderbouhr was recognized with numerous awards. In 1949, he began living and working in the French Congo and divided his residency between Africa and his native France.
